Las Lomas is committed to being one of the most environmentally progressive communities in Los Angeles.
With innovative strategies for reliable, independent, self-sustaining energy and integral water management, Las Lomas will promote an approach to development that will set a standard for the region.

The Whole Community Approach is designed to integrate all aspects of Las Lomas in a manner that promotes environmentalism, from maximum use of solar and wind power to utilizing recycled water. The location of elements of the built environment, negative-impact grading, landscaping, restoration of the natural landscape, irrigation, lighting, and all other aspects of the community of Las Lomas, will be designed to incorporate technologies, approaches, and systems that minimize the impact of man and supports the environmental and sustainability standards that are, in many cases, codified, and in others, being developed.

Among key elements of this approach are:

  • Providing mobility for people, not cars, by providing alternative transportation methods.
  • Creating efficient wastewater treatment facilities
  • Participating in trash recycling programs
  • Converting refuse into energy through pyrollysis
  • Using vegetated bioswales for storm water purification
  • Using tree-planting programs to reduce heat-island effect

While many of these approaches are technical in nature, they demonstrate a goal of utilizing cutting-edge scientific knowledge to create a community that will meet the needs of the present while managing our resources in ways that do not compromise the future.

This Whole Community Approach recognizes and is based on the interconnectedness of man and nature and designed to minimize the footprint of man while preserving an environment in all meanings of the word.
